110/220 Volt EL Wire Inverters
Inverters are a necessary part of any EL-Wire project. Without an inverter your EL-Wire will not light. Choose your inverter based on the power supply you want to use and how much EL-Wire you want to run.

Output frequency (Khz) will change the brightness level of your project. The greater the Khz number the brighter your wire will run. A 400hz inverter will be dimmer than an inverter that runs at 2Khz (2000hz.) We post Khz ratings for as many inverters as possible but not all manufacturers offer that information. Generally inverters with no specifications run at 1.7Khz or more so they are pretty bright.

If you are using your inverter for costume use a small battery pack inverter may be the best choice. If you're working in a vehicle or where you can plug a transformer into the wall, a 12 volt inverter may be the best choice. Some inverters blink or strobe for effect, and animation sequencer inverters can bring your EL-Wire projects to life with movement.

Pay close attention to the wire length that a particular inverter will run. If you choose an inverter that runs 15 feet of EL-Wire and you attach 30 feet of EL-Wire to it, it will be quite dim and the inverter may fail prematurely. All inverter specifications are for standard EL-Wire. High-Bright EL-Wire takes about twice the power of standard EL-Wire, so half the amount of EL-Wire you can run on any inverter when using High-Bright.

Inverters and sequencers use DC power to operate. Some have red/black leads (+ to red) and some have all black leads but are marked for positive.

All El Wire inverters and sequencers emit a noise when they are on. This is a high pitched whine, near the edge of what most people can hear. This doesn't mean you can't hear it. Place your inverters and sequencers accordingly. For clothing, we recommend a pocket. For indoor projects, place your inverter behind a solid object to reduce or eliminate the sound.
